The Timeline

10 years ago I knew exactly what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.

8 years ago I was graduating high school with not a doubt in my mind about what life and my career would look like.  I didn’t have all the answers but I at least had a pretty good picture.

5 years ago I was graduating from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor’s of Music in Music Business / Management, sure that I had found the direction I wanted my career to go.

4 years ago I started managing a band that was just changing its name from 6Cheek to Wesley Jeremiah.  I would spend the next 3 years working with this band and see them through another name change, this time to The Lumineers. (Yes, those Lumineers.)

3 years ago I moved to Los Angeles where I was really going to make it in the industry…ha!

1 year ago I lost the band to a company that could offer resources a recent college graduate just couldn’t.

1 month ago I returned to Illinois and ordered the materials necessary to become a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

And 1 week ago I started really thinking about what I’m doing, where I’m going, what I want to do, where I want to go, and how I’m going to get there.

The last 10 years has proven that despite making plans, nothing is set in stone and we can make adjustments as necessary for our lives, our happiness, and what we want.

But as I weigh my options, as I try to plan, as I try to dive deep into what I want for myself, it’s so easy to become overwhelmed by the process, the options, the choices.  So here’s my reminder for me and my reminder for you:

You don’t have to make a decision today.

Think it over; stop thinking about it; weigh your options; sleep on it; pray on it; meditate on it; talk about it; don’t talk about it; go for a drive; go for a run; write about it; do whatever you need but remember that you don’t have to make your decision today.

Something to think about:

10 Thoughts on “The Timeline

  1. Wow. I can’t even think of where I was 10 years ago. Let alone 5! What an adventure you’ve had. :) I’m sitting here waiting for mine to begin.

  2. Things really have changed for you recently! I know that you are going to be great at whatever you decide to do!! I’m just so excited to see what is next for you and to cheer you on along the way!

  3. Wow, what a great post. A good reminder for me! I can’t have everything planned out and always know what is going to happen. Life hits and things change. And it’s great how positive you are about it :)

    • Everyday isn’t perfect but I do what I can to remain as positive as possible and remind myself that I can’t plan everything out. It’s not easy but as soon as we can accept that, it gets easier.

  4. I thought I wanted to be an architect…how weird does that sound now? Life is just a big journey…I really don’t think that any of us will be happy by just achieving one thing.

So excited to see where this journey takes you! :)

  5. Great post — I so agree; people who “have it all figured out” are not only some of the most BORING, but also the most misguided fools on the planet. Your journey has been awesome so far and I can’t wait to see what lies ahead!
