Breakfast

We’ve all heard breakfast is the most important meal of the day and you know what?  It’s no urban legend – it’s true!  And in all honesty, I’ve never been one to fight breakfast; I love it so much I often eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! ;)

But in all seriousness, it’s true – breakfast is an important part of your day and definitely not something to miss.

  • Eating breakfast helps you feel more energized, less tired, and more focused
  • Eating breakfast starts your day on the right foot, leading you to make healthier choices throughout the day, consuming more nutrients.
  • Eating breakfast gets your metabolism started for the day and therefore, breakfast eaters are less likely to battle obesity

Seeing as I usually wake up hungry in the morning, I don’t have to worry about “forgetting” or convincing myself to eat – I’m hungry, I want food! But I know it’s not always that easy for other people but I’m a believer that it’s all about getting into a rhythm and planning ahead for those mornings when breakfast needs to be on the go.

 

We all know my favorite breakfast – whole wheat english muffin (or toast) with peanut butter and smashed banana – and don’t forget that side of coffee!

I’m also all about a delicious and comforting bowl of oatmeal…

IMG_2742Or pancakes for those mornings when I have a few extra minutes…

But then there’s those mornings when you oversleep, you’re running late or for whatever the reason may be, breakfast needs to be on-the-go.  Those mornings require a little planning and having some quick and easy options available.

 

Overnight oats are a great make the night before option but take with you the next morning…

And breakfast bars are great to just have on hand all ready to go…

Defender 3 pack with ingredientsSpeaking of breakfast bars, I had the opportunity to test out the CORE Foods Meal Bars  and I honestly believe they’re great for those on-the-go mornings.  And to make it even better, they have SIMPLE ingredients so you know exactly what you’re eating.

CORE Foods recommends having 2 glasses of water with each bar to feel as if you’re having a big hearty bowl of oatmeal.  When I first tried one of these bars, I was surprised I wasn’t hungrier earlier.  I thought I felt hunger coming on early in the morning but realized I hadn’t quite had the recommended water so I drank up and was fine.

photo-215The bars taste pretty good (just a bit dry) but with my coffee on the side it wasn’t bad at all and I enjoyed my breakfast.  These would also be great for traveling!

 

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day with many delicious options – why question it when you can eat up and enjoy?!

  1. Yes definitely. I love my Quinoa Flakes Bircher Muesli, porridge in winter time as well as any kind of home made fruit bread that I can freeze.

    Whoops lets not forget poached eggs on toast <<< def an all time fav but one I usually go out to eat :)

      I’m not an eggs for breakfast gal but I do like them for dinner. There’s something about their smell in the morning that doesn’t sit right with me…haha

    I’m new to your blog and just had to comment, because we have the same flowered dishes (your mug, for example). We registered for those as our everyday china last year, and I LOVE them dearly!

  3. Yay for breakfast! I can’t imagine not eating it. Breakfast is actually one of my favorite times of day because I am able to sit down, relax, eat, and catch up on blogging. I love the extra “me time” in the morning :).

      Same here. It’s such a great way to ease into your day and usually ends up being one of the only quiet moments of my day.

  4. I LIVE for breakfast. Seriously–I love my daily bowl of oat bran cooked with egg whites, cinnamon, chia seeds and almond milk. Then I stir in some sort of fruit, and top with nut butter. It’s glorious!

    I am definitely a big fan of breakfast– it’s my favorite meal. My breakfast usually includes a greek yogurt and some kind of high fiber cereal, paired with fruit. And always a starbucks blonde roast with soy milk!

  6. YEP! PB toast for the win! I LOVE having time to sit down and eat my breakfast, so I usually get up early to make that happen. :)

  7. Breakfast is definitely my favorite meal of the day and I’m always surprised by how many people don’t eat it. My go to breakfasts are sweet scrambles, smoothies and overnight oats. I just received my Core Bars to try out and can’t wait to taste them!

    Breakfast is the BEST! I could eat it all day every day! Favorite of course being pancakes (no brainer there, huh?), but followed closely by oats and just about ANYTHING involving eggs! :D I can never understand those people who say they don’t like/have time for breakfast…I MAKE time! Lol

      I wake up extra early so I always have time to relax and enjoy my breakfast every morning. My day just doesn’t feel right unless I get my breakfast. :)

  12. I’m a breakfast eater, but an on-the-go one for sure. I either eat in the car during my hour drive to work, or just once I’m at my desk. Or both. Fruit on the road, yogurt when I get there.

    I love breakfast smoothies, but I just can’t get into them when it’s so cold outside. Lately I’ve been going with oatmeal or steal cut oats. Perfect winter breakfast!

  13. I LOVE breakfast. I wake up extra early and have my morning meditation while preparing it. :)

    I got to try those bars last year and I actually really liked them. I ate them half at a time, and they were great when I was moving because I wouldn’t have my kitchen set up, or time to run and get something else.
