I love essential oils. That’s something that you may or may not know about me. They are a part of my daily life in a multitude of ways. From my warm lemon water when I first wake up, to my morning and evening skincare routine, and down to the blend going in my diffuser while I sleep, it’s a part of my every day. Those aren’t the only ways the oils show up in my day though. I lean on my oils to help support what’s happening in my body and in my mind, and today I thought we would talk about the oils I’ve been leaning on through my current period of grief.

That’s right. Grief. 

I unexpectedly lost my 21-year old cousin and as I’m sure you can imagine, my family and I are in a state of grief, mourning, and pain. One of my uncles worded it so perfectly when he said that he’s “carrying some extra weight this week because of my heavy heart.” I feel the weight on my chest so strong it’s hard to stand up. While I’ve been leaning on all of the tools in my toolbox, one of those tools is my collection of essential oils. Whether you’re going through grief now or use this as a reference for any future moments, these are the essential oils I’ve found most beneficial and comforting to me during this time.

5 Essential Oils for Grief

  • doTERRA “Console” blend (Frankincense, Patchouli, Ylang Ylang, Labdanum, Amyris, Sandalwood, Rose, Osmanthus) – it’s like a “hug” in a bottle
  • Rose – rolled over my heart
  • Patchouli – has a grounding and balancing effect on emotions
  • Bergamot – is both uplifting and calming
  • Frankincense – promotes feelings of satisfaction, peace, relaxation, and overall wellness

Note: All of the oils except Rose, I will put in my diffuser. Since I only have Rose as a roll-on, I like to roll that over my heart center. I also have a roller bottle of Frankincense, so I will also roll that onto the bottoms of my feet before putting on socks when I need some added comfort.

These oils have really been a big support for me during this time and I’m grateful that I have them available to me. This list is not extensive by any means, but rather, these are the ones I’ve been leaning on most during this time. If you find yourself in a time of grief, I hope you find them helpful as well.
