I’ve said this numerous time and I’ll continue to do so, blogger friends ARE real friends. Many live far away and we only get to see each other from time to time but it makes those moments together a real treat.
This past weekend I made my way to Des Moines, Iowa to hang out with some other midwest blogging friends and we had a blast! I left a bit later than I originally planned on Friday and it just happened to work out that I needed a break for lunch when I hit the Tanger Outlets. 😉 Once I refueled my car, I pulled out my lunch and refueled myself with a tasty salad I packed from home. After I finished eating, I decided to give my legs a bit of a stretch and walk the outlets. I didn’t mean to make the dent in my wallet that I did but seeing as I’ll be living in workout gear for the next year of my life, I was able to justify the expense, especially when all the items I bought were on sale. 🙂
After making a bit of damage, I got back in the car and finished the drive before meeting up with Mollie and Alex before joining Katie, Emily and Amanda for dinner at Jethro’s BBQ. We ordered some fried pickles while waiting for everyone to arrive and a round of drinks. I got their “Lake Water” cocktail which was might tasty and the blackened salmon PoBoy with sweet potato fries for dinner. Man it was good and I left SUPER stuffed!
When we got back to Mollie’s apartment, we opened a bottle of wine, hopped in our PJs and played Cards Against Humanity. I really need to get this game, it’s so fun and I was literally crying from laughter on multiple occasions.
When Saturday morning rolled around, we were up bright and early for a busy day. We grabbed breakfast and walked around the Des Moines Farmer’s Market for a couple hours. I was seriously impressed by the size and offerings. I grabbed a paleo blueberry donut and almond milk cafe au lait and was a happy, happy girl.
After the Farmer’s Market, we made our way for an early lunch at Mullet’s and were joined by Traci and Kristin. Lunch was delicious with the highlight being the sweet potato tots and mimosas but the real excitement was to come – wine tasting at Jasper Winery. We sampled 11 different wines and while I did enjoy most, the highlights for me were the Edelweiss (white), Front Porch (rose), and Lucy Lane (red).
After wine tasting, we went back to Mollies, freshened up and headed out to dinner at Bar Louie. We got some appetizers to share and a round of drinks. I stuck to their coconut mint lemonade which was AMAZING! And for dinner I got the veggie flatbread and a side salad. The salad was actually pretty big so I ate that for my meal and took most of the flatbread home to eat on my drive home Sunday.
Dinner was a blast and we weren’t ready to call it a night so we made our way to a few other bars before heading back and passing out.
Sunday morning came way too soon but we got up and a few of us went out for a 3 mile run/walk around the neighborhood before packing up and making our way to breakfast at The Machine Shed, basically a giant breakfast buffet. We had to wait awhile to be seated but the food was pretty good but definitely set everyone’s schedules back a bit. But it meant more time hanging out, which I think we all appreciated.
After breakfast we all went our separate ways and headed home. It was such a fun weekend and it was amazing to take off some of the pressures of planning this trip, blogging or work and just relax with friends.
Thanks again to Mollie for hosting us and all the wonderful ladies who made this weekend what it was. 🙂
Have you ever been to Des Moines?
Linking up to Treat Yourself Tuesday because my weekend was a real treat! 🙂
