Fitness Friday – Rest for the Sick

Unfortunately, despite being on the upswing of this cold, I woke up yesterday morning sounding awful. This week has been about rest – resting my mind, resting my body, and as I try my best to do, listening to what my body needs and is asking for. Sometimes that’s easier said than done, but after 26 years, I also know that when I get sick, it’s my body’s way of saying “you take a break…RIGHT.NOW!

 

So that’s what I’ve been trying to do…

 

But like everybody else, I still have things that need to get done, work that I need to do and a job that doesn’t stop just because I’m sick. Monday was definitely the peak of this cold and packed with phone calls, emails and things that needed to get done. I’m happy to have been on the upswing since then, but I’m sure my non-stop nature isn’t helping keep the cold from dragging out.

 

 

My workouts this week, or lack thereof, definitely show how I’ve been feeling. I’m someone who will continue to workout through an illness, if and when I can because I like to sweat out those toxins, but I’m also not going to workout and make it worse, it’s a fine line.

Monday night I forced myself to do a little yoga, trying to twist and wring those toxins out of my body. By Tuesday I was able to get into the gym for an easy strength session and some slow walking and on Wednesday I got in another strength session and more yoga before bed. And despite hoping for a workout Thursday morning, I knew better and took the day off.

 

Like I said, this week was about rest and listening to my body.

5 – A Road ID – safety first! I bought one for my sister when she started running more. My family laughed and thought it was funny (smart, but funny)…irony is that I don’t even own one. This IS on my list this year.

6 Tips to Get Out the Door for an Early Morning Workout

Screen Shot 2013-11-25 at 2.51.03 PMI’ve always been an early morning workout girl, at least as long as I’ve been working out consistently. I think it’s because if I get in the habit of doing it first thing in the morning, then I don’t run into the excuses that happen as the day continues on. You know the ones I’m talking about – I’m too tired, I have too much to do, I’ll do it after this, no after that, etc. Getting it done early sets you up for a great day ahead. Plus if something does come up first thing in the morning and you can’t get in your workout, you do still have the rest of the day to try and make it happen (but like I said, I try to avoid that and just get it done).

 

Obviously some days working out in the morning just isn’t an option. I’ve been there, I get it. You work at 5 or 6am and the gym isn’t open yet or isn’t open early enough for you to workout, shower and get to work on time. That’s when I started pushing back my workouts to when I got off or during my lunch breaks (depending where I was working at the time) but I took the same approach to my workouts during that hour. So here’s a few of my tips to get in that early morning workout:

Go Go Fitness Friday!

Go.Go.Go.Go.Go.Go.Go! That’s how my life is feeling lately. I’m not complaining, no said it’s a bad thing but it does mean I’m tired and ready for Sunday where the only thing on my agenda is hot yoga. Well…that and some local music radio shows in the evening. Like I said, go.go.go.go! ;)

 

 

Regardless, I’ve stayed active this week which is good. That’s always how I’m able to keep my sanity during busy weeks. I know my hard work will eventually pay off but if that happened sooner rather than later, I wouldn’t complain. ha! A last minute show last night, another tonight and I’m eyeing one tomorrow night so let’s just get to the Fitness Friday fun so I can get back to work, mmkay?
