3 Things I Look For When Picking A Protein Powder

It’s known that I preach my love for my morning smoothies, regardless of the time of year, but especially during the warmer summer months, smoothies become even more of a key part of my diet and lifestyle. Thanks to Bob’s Red Mill and their plant based proteins, I’ll be enjoying plenty of smoothies all summer long.

Nine times out of ten, I mix my protein powders into a smoothie with greens, frozen fruit and dairy-free milk, but sometimes that isn’t an option. I always try to hit up hot yoga first thing in the morning on the weekend and then head to the grocery store. Wanting to refuel as soon as possible, I’ll grab some protein and shake it up with water, drinking it as I drive to the store and run my errands.

So the question remains, what do I look for in a protein powder?

1. Gluten Free

Since discovering just how much gluten was affecting me, I’ve been very strict about allowing myself to splurge. I’m pretty sure I’ve had it a few times unknowingly, but it’s important to me to pay as much attention to this as possible!

2. Dairy Free

This is another no exception for me which means my protein powders are plant-based and often times vegan. Bob’s Red Mill fits the bill!

3. Clean Ingredients

This is going to look a bit different for everyone but personally, I like to know what the ingredients are in not only my everyday foods, but also in my nutritional supplements. Chia seeds, pea protein, monk fruit? I know what each of those are!

I love that Bob’s RedMill new protein powders fit the bill and can’t wait to a summer full of yummy smoothies and convenient post hot yoga shakes!

I didn’t know they made protein powder! I did know they make great flour alternatives. You hear so much about the dangers of protein powder. I’ve been using Garden of Life but I’ll have to check this out.

Their protein powders are new and CLEAN. I’m assuming by the “dangers of protein powders” you’re referring to the ones that have all sorts of different ingredients that you can’t name or don’t know what they are? That’s why I’m always looking for ones with simple and short ingredient lists where I know what those items are and I feel good putting them in my body!

I actually never tried a protein powder before and i have been considering to do it. My favourite flavours are strawberry and vanilla. Maybe it#s time I give the a try 🙂

This is excellent! I did not know that Bob’s Red Mill makes protein powders. We use Miessence in our house (raw, certified organic). I’m going to keep an eye out for the chocolate Bob’s next time I’m at the grocery store or the health food store and give it a try.

Do you also look for the protein and sugar levels too? Those are usually what I look at. Low carb, low sugar, and at least 20 gms of protein. I need to try Bob’s Red Mill’s though! Love that it’s a clean product.
