The other week I put out a call on my Facebook for things that my friends and family wanted to do before they turned 30.
When I posted this I was looking for ideas of fun things that I could work towards for the next year until I turn 30. I knew some people would probably throw out skydiving (and they did) which wouldn’t make my list, but I thought people would maybe throw out other fun ideas like reading 30 books or go hiking in Colorado (I’ve done this, loved it and would do it again), etc.
What I got honestly surprised me.
People started getting deep, talking about BIG goals (marriage, children, a house), being crazy in their 20s and settling in their 30s (my boss), or going on to tell me how your 30s aren’t bad and to embrace them.
The completely innocent post took a totally different turn and I’m not sure why I didn’t see that coming.
I bring this up today because I’m not over the idea of making a list of FUN things I can do in the next year before I turn 30. It’s not coming from a place of dread or worry or anxiety, it comes from a place of wanting FUN, excitement, more memories and more reasons to embrace life after 30.
So…what would you have on your 30 before 30 list?

Interesting observations. I know there are definitely big ticket items on my “life vision” and 30 is one of the milestones because it is an even number and the start of a new decade. But, I love the idea of these fun activities lists where you do something that you wouldn’t necessarily consider doing. I hope you decide on a fun list of things to do this next year!
I’ve done the 101 in 1001. Mostly full of things like read 101 books etc. 30 really isn’t “old”. I loved my 30’s. With each decade you find yourself more. You discover the you that has been lurking underneath.
Things like marriage, children, house etc are BIG things that involve more than just you. For the list you need things that you can control.
I’m contemplating a 50 by 50 list! Now that’s gonna be a shocker when that birthday comes around!
Oh boy, this is tough! I would say probably have a job that I could see myself in long-term, furnish my apartment with “grown up” furniture and travel as much as possible!

I have a “101 in 1001” list, but I’m going to have to make a list like this at some point! I’d go with a fun list as well! I don’t like putting deadlines on things that shouldn’t really have “deadlines” (e.g. getting married).

My list included some of these: try the (local) restaurants featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, get something published, learn to parallel park, learn to (properly) apply make-up, qualify for Boston, win (or win an age group award) in a local race, sign up for CrossFit (or some other type of cross training)…

I am 33 and I think this is a great idea. I would totally do this kind of list but modify for 40 things to do before 40! It is always nice to have fun things to do and experience! This also gives you a visual list so that you are likely to do it!!
I feel like my 30 before 30 list would be filled with travel related things – probably because I’m married already so the single lady life side of things wouldn’t be there, haha!
Oh and making the ULTIMATE gluten free nutella cronut… because I HATE that cronuts are a thing now that I found out I have coeliac disease 😛

Oooh I love this idea! I am turning 30 next June so I might have to make my own list! I would say run a marathon, but that won’t be on my list because of my injury 🙁 Maybe you should come up here to Alaska! Everyone should do that at least once in their lives!

Ooh, I am only 24 but I want to do a lot of different things before I turn 30 including traveling to 3 different countries as one of the more exciting ones.

I had travel to 5 new places on mine which was probably my favorite one to do! Because it didn’t need to be major huge places just 5 new places!
I’m working on my 30 before 30 list right now! So far I have 21 items…and I’m a month into being 29. I need to finish this list! Goals include to be a guest on a podcast [scary] and to travel to a mountainous place. Will you share yours?
My 30th birthday is quickly approaching. I’m not sure I have much time to make a list. 🙂
I’ve always loved the idea of doing these lists, but I can never stick to them. A year can go by and I’ll look back and see that I only did like one thing on the list.

I had a 25 before 25 list and I accomplished most of the things on it! (I’m 27 now) I had a lot of career oriented things on it but I also put a lot of fun things on it. My number one item was to play laser tag (as I had never done it before and always wanted to)…I finally did it and it was so worth making a priority. Sometimes we have to make fun things a goal too! 🙂
I wanted to run a marathon, travel abroad and move out of my home state to experience something new. I’m happy to say I did all three! What are you adding to your list?
I always have ideas in the back burner but most of it is traveling. http://sheismelrose.net/
I think buying a house, getting married and having a family are all great things, but you can’t push for them until you feel ready. I’m well beyond the 30 mark, but if I had to do a list when I was 29, I’d do the things that would have helped me find out who I was – because let’s face it, at 36, I still don’t know. 🙂 Travelling solo, taking some classes (like a craft or hobby) for fun, going on a road trip with the besties or learning to do something new are all things I’d put on my list. One thing on my “before 40” list is to do something that scares me. I don’t know what that is yet, but I will when I see it!
I am definitely going to come up with a list when I turn 29!!

I have a list that I posted in my early days of blogging, I do want to buy a house, although I’ve got two years and am not sure if that will happen, I also have “learn to shoot a handgun” because I do think its important to know the basics on safety and aim.

I have a 60×60 list. I have gone zip lining, ridden in a hot air balloon and, well, that’s all I can remember at the moment. This serves as a reminder to take a look at my list!

I, like Susie, would put french braiding on my list, along with taking a dance class, a self-defense class, learn how to make french macaroons, and bake bread from scratch.

Hmmm good topic! I think I’d like to continue to grow my blog, move somewhere new, go to a cooking class, do a paint night with my mom and sisters, learn more about photography, travel to Hawaii, and go to Harry Potter World 😀 Thats my off the top of my head list–I think I’ll make my own list. I’ve got 4 more years until I’m 30 so thats plenty of time to hit some goals haha
