My FitBit died the other week. It was this quick and painful death (for me, not it). One day it just shut off, I gave it a reset and it was working again until the next day when it happened again. I was heart broken.
I reached out to their support and we determined it was a goner but I qualified for a replacement and waited as patiently as possible for it to come. The new tracker showed up on Wednesday, I got it charged and synced and yesterday I was able to get back to the grind. Who knew how much I would miss it?
Anyway, I thought it would fun to share a few suggestions on making sure youβre getting in your steps, whether youβre using a FitBit or another step tracker.
- Take the stairs
- Get up from your desk every hour
- Where can you walk? (Think: to the gym, groceries, work, if possible)
- Walk on your lunch break
- Take laps around the house
Do you have a FitBit or other step tracking device?
How do you achieve your daily step goal?

I have for sure done laps around the house to get my steps!
Glad I’m not the only one! π
I’ve been known to jog in place just to hit the daily goal! I used to be pretty obsessed with my steps, but I’ve noticed that my Fitbit doesn’t track accurately. When the Treadmill says I’ve run 3 miles, my Fitbit is off by a half a mile, sometimes more. I think it’s out to get me!

Oh really? I always pay attention to where I’m at before and after my run and it’s always been pretty spot on for me! I wonder why yours is that way?
I’ve had a lot of problems with Fitbit. Actually, my boyfriend’s first one had to be returned because it just died after a two months (through no fault of his own). My first one didn’t work right out of the box. The heart-rate monitor didn’t detect a pulse. The company replaced both products without hassle, but I’m not impressed with the construction, and I sure don’t trust my numbers. That said, I still use the damn thing daily!

Oh boo! My first one crapped out and I’m hoping for better luck with the replacement I was sent!
I never track my steps despite having a tracker on my phone! Hopefully this post will help me take control of my steps from now on! Thanks!

It’s really eye opening when we realize how sedentary we can be some days!
I could do with tracking my steps more often! I have a tracker on my phone but never use it! Thanks for the tips though, I will definitely try to use them in my life βΊοΈ
I so need to be better at this! I’m all over the place… some days I got 0 steps and the next I’m past my 10,000. I need to work on consistency!

Absolutely! π
I should work on getting up from my desk more often and doing a lap or two around the building. I get up regularly, but that’s to get an ice pack or a bandaid and I don’t have to walk far to get to them. Those steps definitely don’t add up! π Great tips.

They add up, just not as quickly as we’d like! π
Ha yes, the fitbit can be quite fun to use when competing with fellow friends on steps! I have been a bit lax on this lately, so need to get back on some step challenges! They definitely help me be more accountable.
I love the group challenges! They definitely make it a bit more fun!
Love my Fitbit! I have a goal of 22k, as I hope to get 10k from exercise, and 10k from everyday movement. Or sometimes my son (he’s only 12, but has a Fitbit and trounces me regularly) have a goal to hit 10×10 … 10K by 10 am!
Agree with all of these! Taking little walk breaks at work helps so much!
I miss my fitbit!! Currently debating on getting another one or going for a garmin watch (my brother works for them and can get a crazy discount). I do miss competing with friends for steps although I will admit I became pretty obsessed with it!

I totally end up taking laps around my house when I’m near the end of the day but not at my mark yet. ha Walking in circles, but at least it’s something!

My apartment is so small that I usually get a bit dizzy but I do it anyway! π
Right now I dont have anything that tracks my steps but I definitely try to move whenever I can. I try to get up each hour from my desk at work and to get in some walking during my lunch break. It’s definitely much easier to move during the weekends when I’m not chained to the desk job haha

Great tips Katie ο , Itβs way too easy to take the βeasierβ option, but once you get into a good routine it doesnβt seem as much as of an effect, lol. Running around at work and looking after two under 2βs never seems to give me a moment to stop, lol. I have a 3 Step System for Easily Completing my goals feel free to have a look http://simplicitygal.com/easily-reach-goals-3-steps/ . Iβm a great believer in growing a strong mindset, if you want to see the results youβre going to have to do the work and in the end, itβs completely worth.

I think I’m the only one in the world without a fit bit haha. So I got a new phone and it has something called Life log which seems to be a tracking device and I don’t have a clue how to use it !!
Great tips! And the feeling when you hit your step goal! Even my boys like to come up and check how much farther I have to go. A quick run outside with the dogs or a game of basketball with the boys. It all adds up! Have a great week!!
I lap the house ALL THE TIME lol!
Thankfully I’m not a fan of elevators so I always take the stairs. Plus I know it’s good for me! I’m so bad about not getting up from my work desk or walking around the house, but I like walking wherever/whenever I can!

These are great tips! I do all of them! And most of the time I reach my goal because even though I have an office job, I have to get up and walk around a lot and there is one flight of stairs I use all day long! Thank you, Katie! Glad you got your replacement!

I always park a distance away so I have to walk extra.

Great idea!
I also park farther away at work. More steps, and because I can’t parallel park! HA!

I always surpass my goals when I clean out house – who knew that cleaning a house could lead to more that 3000 steps (of course, I have stairs). π
