Are you listening?
I mean, really, truly listening?
Chances are, the answer to that question is no. And you’re not alone.
I’ve failed to listen too. We all have.
We get busy with the hustle and bustle of life, of other people’s opinions, of the big shiny objects and we ignore the voices telling us we’re going the wrong way, we’re not where we’re supposed to be, and that it’s time to make a change.
This is one reason I love and preach the power of yoga and meditation. These practices literally force us to slow down, turn in, and listen to what comes up and start to decipher the messages popping up between the thoughts of the monkey mind.
But what happens when you don’t listen?
The messages you’re supposed to receive become louder, the lessons become bigger, the challenges become more overwhelming…until they all literally force you to STOP. You can no longer ignore their message.
Is this resonating? Does this sound familiar?
Yeah, me too.
The burnout. The overwhelm. The physical exhaustion.
I’ve driven back and forth from Michigan to Illinois 3x in the last week. I’ve also worked my busy full-time job, packed up my entire life and moved it into a storage unit while dealing with one of the worst physical illnesses of my life caused by toxic mold. I’ve turned my life and my routine upside down. It shouldn’t have surprised me (but it did) that I had to stop half way through my 4-hour drive on Saturday to take a nap in my car at a rest stop, then had a breakdown when I arrived worrying I was sick, only to realize it’s “just” exhaustion and burnout.
I checked myself into a hotel for a few days of time alone, quiet, and to recharge before driving back to IL.
But back to my question: are you listening?
Are you hearing your body ask for rest? Are you hearing the parts of you asking to slow down? Are you tuning into yourself and what YOU need? Are you asking yourself what is the next best step for YOU? Are you tuning out all of the OTHER voices so you can hear the one that matters most? (That’s YOURS, if you had any questions about that.)
I’m working on something special to help you quiet the noise, tune in, and re-connect with yourself. If you’re interested in learning more, drop a comment below and I’ll be sure you’re the first to know when it’s ready!
