Is it crazy that I find myself the most productive when I’m at my busiest? And apparently it’s also when I’m my most creative and inspired (at least in the kitchen!).
On Tuesday, I ended up having to stay a bit later at work and was asked to come in on Wednesday, which was previously listed as a day off. I’m all about being a team player and of course a little extra cash to go towards bills in my pocket is nice. But this also means utilizing my time when I’m not at work better than I have been. (womp womp)
The little wheels in my head have been turning and I hope to bring you guys plenty of delicious recipes over the next few weeks as I (hopefully) see these ideas through. Lucky for you, I have one for you today.
When I came home from work on Tuesday, I asked my dad what he was thinking for dinner. He didn’t have any ideas, I didn’t have any ideas, but I knew I was in the mood to make some homemade apple sauce. I decided to go for it knowing that despite whatever we had for dinner (we ended up going out for Mexican food), a delicious bowl of homemade apple sauce can always be consumed after.
Chunky CrockPot Applesauce
- 7 cups peeled, cored and chopped apples (I used the remaining Gala apples we picked a few weeks ago, but use whatever you’d like!)
- 1 1/2 cups apple juice or cider
- 1 1/2 TBSP brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
Dump all ingredients in the crockpot, stir and let it go.
I started it out on med-high for about an hour, turned it down to med-low while we were at dinner, then gave it a quick mash with the potato masher and turned it back up. It was doing it’s thing for about 5 hours, but adjust the temp for what works for you. Also keep it mind that you don’t necessarily have to mash the apples smaller if you want an even chunkier applesauce or if you use apples that break down more.
This made a great after dinner snack for me and the rents. (I also recommend topping with a small handful of Raisin Bran cereal – yum!) 😉
Have you ever / do you like to make your own applesauce?
What’s your favorite way to eat apples you’ve picked?

Girl, I totally feel ya! I seem to get the most ideas whenever I have the LEAST amount of time! And work has been crazy lately so there’s been a lot of writing stuff down for later…oh if only there were a few more hours in the day that I could hide from everyone else! Lol
I’m ashamed to say (especially after seeing how easy this recipe is) that I’ve never made my own applesauce BUT I do happen to have about a dozen little beauts from the farmer’s market that are starting to get a little soft!
It’s possible I have multiple lists of things to make and some lists of things I made that failed and need tweaking. Though I usually end up losing the later… 😉
I love making homemade applesauce. It was my favorite thing to do with my grandmother!! This looks so good girl!
Aww so cute! 🙂
