Finding Routine

I’m a creature of habit. I find my routine and I stick with it. I might change it up occasionally but it usually still looks very similar.

Not as of late.

This 50 States In A Year journey has totally shaken up my routine. It’s not a bad thing but it’s definitely different and makes each day interesting and challenging. I’m not used to taking so many days off working out or needing to figure out how to get in my activity outside of the gym or box. It’s been several years since I didn’t have a membership of some sort.

Yesterday morning I woke up in the RV on Sam’s farm, put on my running gear and set out for a 3 mile run on the farm. It was much needed but at the same time very challenging physically and mentally. When I awoke this morning, I wanted to do it again but the rain outside the RV proved that would not be happening today so I rolled over, pulled the covers over my head and listened to the rain for an hour or so before getting back up.

In time, I know I’ll find a routine…with my fitness, blogging, reading, driving, living, etc but until now I’m struggling to find it and maintain what grasp I can. I know I’m doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing at this point of my life so don’t take it the wrong way. I just need to give myself the time and space until I find the groove.

How do you find routine when life changes it up?

You’ll find a new routine/daily way of life soon. I think it will happen organically – just focus on each day. Maybe the night before, try to make a rough outline of the next day… and maybe that will help the routine find its way into your life.

I like mapping out my week, just on scratch paper, to find the similarities, or at least to find the open spaces where you can add whatever it is that helps you feel most in control/in a routine.
