Fitness Friday

I feel the need to celebrate – yoga is making a pretty big comeback in my life. This is very good news. I swear even 20 minutes can make all the difference in the world – both mentally and physically. In fact, one way I’ve allowed it to make a comeback is by starting a new nightly routine: yoga and reading. If I can’t do both in the same night, I at least accomplish one. It’s honestly one of the most important things for my sanity and probably for my sleep each night.

In fact, I’m hoping to make an even bigger commitment to yoga within a week. I received a 30 days for $30 to a yoga studio near my job that I’m hoping to take advantage of. This will allow me to get in a longer practice, test out a new studio and new teachers, and really focus on myself and what I need. There’s something about yoga that allows me to achieve that sense that other forms of exercise can’t always.

You may also notice I’ve been running a bit more lately. In fact I’ve swapped out a few of my FitMixer workouts for a run here or there. Some days I think I’ll attempt both; other days I know that’s not a good idea. But I’m debating running a 5k next weekend and if I’m going to do that, then I need to make sure my legs and lungs are in tip, top shape. Well, that and my new Nike Frees came in the mail and I don’t want to take them off my feet.

Have you been doing any yoga this week?

I have been wanting to do yoga again since Blend, but I have yet to just drop into one of the classes at my gym. I guess I’m scared that the style will be so different I won’t like it or something?

There’s also the “what if I find an instructor I really like?” possibility. Styles are different and you’re bound to take a class you don’t love every once in a while. There is something very special about experiencing another person’s uninterrupted lead for an entire class and having them respond to your movement with words and assists.

I need to stay consistent for stretching (and relaxation purposes)! It’s SO important.
