How I’m Preparing For Yoga Teacher Training

Happy Monday, friends!

I had quite the different week and weekend than I originally expected or hoped for. I ended up back at the doctor’s office when I really was still feeling under the weather, only to find out that I had mono. Needless to say, the weekend meant a lot of laying down on the couch, extra sleep, and a whole lot of Netflix. While that may sound nice, I quickly hit the anxious just-want-to-move and stop sleeping point. I do feel like I’m making a little progress every single day, but there will still be a lot of The Great British Baking Show for the next week or so.

Anyway, with Yoga Teacher Training coming up in a week and a half (YAYYYY!!), I thought it would be fun to talk about how I’m preparing for yoga teacher training (outside of trying to recover from mono).

Order books

We were sent a list of required books and a few optional books. Truthfully, I want them ALL but decided to only order 1 book from the “optional” list and toss the others on a wish list for later. These are the three books that I’ve ordered:

Teaching Yoga: Essential Foundations and Techniques by Mark Stephens

Yamas and Niyamas: Exploring Yoga’s Ethical Practice by Deborah Adele

Anatomy and Yoga: A Guide for Teachers and Students by Ellen Saltonstall

Prepare for my at-home practice

I’m not great about practicing at home but I know with YTT right around the corner, it’s time to make sure my apartment is set up for practicing at home. While all you really need for yoga is a mat, I’ve added a few additions to the items that I already have that I believe will come in handy for now and forever. Here’s what I’ve ensured I have on hand and ordered what I didn’t:

Food prep

Aside from my usual weekly meal prep, I’ve been trying to plan ahead a bit more so if things get busy, I have extra meals prepped in the freezer that I can easily cook up. For me, this has meant making sure I have frozen veggies, my favorite frozen fish burgers for a quick dinner, frozen soup in single servings, and a loaf of gluten free bread, just in case.

Organize my schedule

The holiday season will approach quickly and while that’s always busy, this year aside from YTT also happening, I am in a wedding and attending another with the boy. This means I need to have a really good handle on my schedule, so I’ve broken out my planner multiple times and am making sure to keep it up to date at all times.

I also had a few paid holidays I needed to take from my full time job before the end of the year or I would lose them, so I actually planned them accordingly and gave myself a day off after a particularly busy weekend which I know I will greatly appreciate when the time comes. As the saying goes, “preparation is the key to success.”

Any Netflix recommendations for me while I recover?

If you’ve taken YTT, how did you prepare?
