I drove home this past weekend for a quick catch up with friends and family. I swear there is never enough time to see all of the people that I want to see and never enough time with each one. Never.
Before the madness ensues on these weekends, I always love starting my days with a workout, specifically a run around my old neighborhood. The faces I pass are friendly, the scenery nostalgic, and the air fresh.
As I ran my neighborhood Saturday morning, it was a bit chilly but the sun was out and it just felt really peaceful. My body (mostly) felt good and I wanted to just keep running. Past the farm where my parents have a garden, past my old high school, through our little downtown, past the historic mansion and known lake. My knee, lungs and time constraints wouldn’t have that, but with music in my ears, I sang along as I ran my little 2 ½ mile route.
As I made the final loop that would take me home, “Dream” by Priscilla Ahn started playing. I almost changed the song to something faster that would bring me through the final push when I got caught up in the lyrics.
I was a little girl
Alone in my little world
Who dreamed of a little home for me.
I played pretend between the trees,
And fed my houseguests bark and leaves,
And laughed in my pretty bed of green.
I had a dream
That I could fly
From the highest swing.
I had a dream.
The song spoke to me in ways that only music can. I was running past my old high school, thinking of my days in theatre, speech team, choir, performing on stage in the school talent shows with one of my very best friends.
I had a dream.
And then I turned the corner and rounded back home, the final stretch home and to start the whirlwind to see as many friends, family and loved ones as possible.
I had a dream.
And I still do.

“performing on stage in the school talent shows with one of my very best friends.”
oh hey
I love this song and I love that it connected with you! Keep that dream alive, gorgeous! <3

How beautiful! I have listened to it twice in a row, love!
I love listening to music while I’m running, too. Thanks for sharing this sweet, sweet song, Katie!
It’s amazing how motivating and inspiring music can be, and the emotions it can stir.
Thank you so much for sharing. I love her music. It’s amazing what music can do.
I love her music! And I love this post. Thanks for the reminder that I had a dream and I still do. 🙂 It always helps to be reminded of that.

This is such a sweet reflection. My parents moved a few states away from where I grew up when I was in college. Since then, I’ve been to my hometown once! It was strange and I didn’t see anybody (purposefully). It would be so nice to go back, but I’m certain there wouldn’t be time to see everyone.
Thanks for sharing.

I know what you mean about there never being enough time to see everybody. When we go back to visit the USA in a year or two, we’ll have about 3 weeks, at most, a month, to visit my extended family and my husband’s extended family, not to mention our scattered friends! Just the thought of only spending a week in each state after several years away is a little daunting!
