International Yoga Day

Did you today is International Yoga Day?

yoga day

I mentioned yesterday that I spent my Friday night in the orchard doing yoga under 90* heat, followed by a hard cider and chat with a friend. While it was fun, it also showed part of what yoga is all about…community.

Yoga is about taking a step away from life and to your mat to move and breathe. To take a break from the stress and worry and long to-do lists to just be where you are and in your moment.

Yoga is about us accepting the past, appreciating the present and embracing the future. To stop fearing the what-ifs and unknowns and instead be excited about what those moments may bring.

As much as yoga is about community, it’s also about self. To find ourselves, to love ourselves and to love others.

So today I suggest you take some time to practice. I don’t care if it’s 5 minutes, 20 minutes or 60 minutes, but you and your body will thank you for it.

Just remember that it helps support those other classes you love! Or maybe keep trying to find a different studio that’s a better fit?

Yoga is part of me, it’s in my body, mind, and soul. I love reading how others embrace the practice in their daily life. Do you follow a video series or yoga book?

When I’m practicing at home, I generally do YogaDownload.com sessions, otherwise I practice at a local hot yoga studio.

Didn’t know it was International Yoga Day, but am so glad I saw your post on the SPA page! Will be squeezing in a short yoga session this evening :). My fave pose: Trikonasana, on good days when I can balance (haha) it makes me feel confident and strong.

I have only tried yoga once and that was years ago. I am excited though to be able to try out a Yoga Barre class soon!

Happy yoga day!! I’ve only tried it once, many years ago, and I would really like to try it again. 🙂

Nice–I did not know today was International Yoga day! I love yoga and discovered it while i was in college. I had to quit dance which I thought would be my career and found new love in yoga. In many ways it brought me out of a very dark depressing time and im forever grateful for it.

It did a very similar thing to me too and continues to do so. I know that I can’t keep yoga away for too long or I lose myself a bit.

My favorite pose is penguin. As a runner, it really opens up my hips which I never realized until I started practicing yoga how much I needed to open them up. I do it so much that I’ve caught my 3 year old doing it in the bathtub. 🙂
