Love YOU!

If you’re anything like me, you’re not big on Valentine’s Day.

If you’re anything like me, it has nothing to do with your current relationship status.

And if you’re anything like me, it’s just another day out of the year.

IMG_0785 - Version 2Now, that’s not to say I won’t ever celebrate or want to spend the day with that special someone when I have a special someone; it just means, I don’t need this particular day out of the year for someone to show or say how much they care.  Truth is, if you care, don’t you want to show it everyday?

Regardless, Hallmark has this ability to make a profit today and who am I to judge or try to stop them?  Meanwhile, I can use it as a reminder; a reminder to check in with myself.

IMG_0087Why?

Because it’s so easy to talk down on ourselves; to say we’re not good enough, not pretty enough, not smart enough, etc.  And when this holiday comes around and you’re just as single as you were the year before (and the year before…), it becomes even easier.  Or maybe you’re in a relationship that isn’t working for you.  Maybe that relationship is the one you have with yourself.

So why not take today to check in?  To see where you stand.  To remind yourself of the traits you love about yourself.  To look at those things you want to improve and figure out how you can get there.  To look in the mirror and remind yourself that you’re beautifulon the inside and out.

I’m not saying it’s easy.  In fact, as I write this post I’m trying to smash my own self doubt and negative thoughts.  We all deal with it.  It’s how we react to it, how we handle it, how we move forward that really makes a difference.

Besides, if we can’t learn to love ourselves, how do we expect anyone else to?

So take a moment – whether you’re single, married, divorced, dating, whatever…

Look in the mirror…

And tell yourself one thing you love about YOU!

What do you love about yourself today?

Honestly, Valentine’s Day – love / hate / in-between?

I like Valentine’s Day just fine (red is my favorite color, and I like candy!), but have found for myself that it mattered most to me when I was single. When I’ve been in a relationship, v-day has always seemed kinda stupid. When I’ve been single, it’s been a day to wish I wasn’t single. So, in that way, I think it’s kinda dumb.

Great, and powerful, reminder! Today I love myself for growing into a more selfless person than I was years ago. With every passing year, I’m better at seeing the big picture of this life called “life”, and learning to become a better person within it. 🙂
