If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you may have noticed that my dear Blend bestie, Amanda came to visit me last week before I left for New York. She arrived late Tuesday night and left early Thursday morning but we packed Wednesday with lots of fun and catching up!
Our morning started with a nice walk/run around my neighborhood before catching the train to Chicago. (This was Amanda’s first time on a passenger train! I couldn’t believe it!) We had plans to meet Katie for lunch (we forgot to get a picture of the 3 of us before Katie had to head back to work…oops). It was great getting to catch up while eating a tasty lunch.
From there, we walked over to Millennium Park. Of course I had to take Amanda to the big bean for a few fun pictures. We still had some time to kill before our real reason for coming into the city so we walked over to Navy Pier to sit by the lake, drink some coffee and nearly get attacked by birds. If you don’t know, I am terribly afraid of birds so I’m sure you can imagine this was not my intent but when someone sitting next to us decided to start feeding the birds, it became inevitable. I wasn’t pleased bur rather quite thankful that it was finally time to make the walk for our evening festivities…
I had been invited by Laughing Cow to attend their Love Your Local event in Chicago. While I’m lactose intolerant and knew I wouldn’t be able to eat anything, they assured me it would still be a fun event. I was allowed to bring a guest and while Amanda isn’t local (though she SHOULD be…hint Amanda hint), she thought it sounded fun too and her schedule allowed her to drive up for the day to join me.
They had 3 different breakout sessions (stop motion video, food photography, and easy snack pairings), a Twitter vending machine, Instagram photo printer and of course, lots of snacks. It all looked so delicious but my belly knew better and I stayed away from the food but enjoyed getting to meet some other local influencers and hearing what they had to say. I also decided the Instagram photo printer would be a really fun idea for a wedding (for any of my engaged friends out there).
It was a pretty fun event but more than anything I enjoyed getting to spend the day walking around the city with my blend. By the time we got home and checked our stats, we found out we walked over 11 miles total (between our morning walk, run, and walking around the city). I was super surprised my feet weren’t sore the next day!
Thank you Amanda for coming to Chicago to visit (even if it was super short) and Laughing Cow for a fun event and excuse to break out of the suburbs and into my amazing city.
What is one “must see” in your town for any visiting guests?

Sounds like a great day!!!
It sure was! Blend days are always the best, aren’t they? 🙂
It looks like you had a really fun day in the city 🙂 I love showing friends from out of town around Chicago <3
Also, have you tried lactaid so you can have a little dairy? My husband is lactose intolerant as well, and if he takes a pill he can have a little bit and feel ok. I know everyone is different though!
Growing up I was able to take lactaid pills but at some point during college that changed and it no longer helped. My lactose intolerance has actually gotten worse as I got older so I can’t really even go near it with a 10 foot pole. lol!
I love that neither of us really fit the description of a person that should be at the event but we went anyways!! And actually learned stuff! Thanks for letting me join in and thanks to your parents for being super sweet and making me feel welcome!! <3
Right? It was fun anyway though!
