Music Monday // Whiskey & Frosting

I’m not sure if I’ve told you this before but I love Spotify.  Not just in the way that I have all of my favorite music at my fingertips, but because I have new music, music I have yet to find at my finger tips.  And all I have to do is find it.

Sometimes that’s harder than you’d expect it to be but other times it’s as easy as saying “Whiskey and Frosting? I’m either going to love that or hate it.  Well, there’s only one way to find out.”

It started with “Cameron” – a song with an amazing message.  Just check out these lyrics.

Cameron’s in drag, makes his father mad
Since he was a little boy, he always felt more comfortable in lipstick
People call him fag, teachers turn their backs
Off the bus he runs and runs
To get home before anyone can catch him

These days the world is full of aliens
The world is full of aliens
But you are a real, live human
Aren’t you Cameron?

Powder and a brush can cover any cuts
And quickly running cotton under cold water
Rinses out the blood marks
Cameron you’re a star, a light with there is dark
And you’re a hundred times a woman,
A hundred times the men that they are

These days the world is full of aliens
The world is full of aliens, but you are a human
A real, live human
Aren’t you Cameron?

You’re not an alien, you’re not an alien
You’re not an alien, Cameron
You’re not an alien, you’re not an alien
You’re not an alien, Cameron

Cameron’s in drag, makes his father mad
Since he was a little boy, he always felt more comfortable in lipstick

These days the world is full of aliens
The world is full of aliens, but you are a human
You’re not an alien
You are a real, live human
Aren’t you Cameron?

Aren’t you Cameron?

So who is this girl?  Her name is Jillette Johnson and this is something we call talent and potential.  Her future could be bright if she sticks with her soul and doesn’t fall into what I know the industry will want to do with her.  Because there’s a song called “When the Ship Goes Down” where she reminds me of old school Michelle Branch but with a piano instead of a guitar.  And songs like “Torpedo” that just get you bobbing your head from the get-go.

Just check out Whiskey and Frosting.  It could totally be your thing or it could be someone else’s – there’s only one way to find out.

Have you found any music recently that you were surprised to really like?

I’ve just started listening to her music, and am so glad I came across her when I was randomly searching Spotify! She also created a playlist on it with songs she’s currently listening to. Pretty awesome if you ask me 🙂

I have posts planned to get through the drive. I don’t want to worry too much about blogging after driving 8-10 hours…
