Sleep In

It’s been a long time since I was one of those people who could sleep in, whether that be on the weekends, a day off, or really ever.  I think part is due to being a born morning person, I wake up with the sun and want to sleep when it sets.

Part due to working in coffee for years and waking up super early to get the shop ready before the other early risers need their fix.

And part to being the girl who would wake up in the wee hours of the morning to get to the gym at 5am just to get her workout in prior to work at 8am.

And since I work Saturday mornings at the office, sleeping in just isn’t possible but that doesn’t mean I can’t “sleep in” in the form of relaxation and an afternoon nap when I get off work.

So this weekend I challenge you, get a little extra rest, relax, take that afternoon nap or if you can, sleep in.  Give your mind, body and spirit the refresh that it so desperately needs and deserves.

When was the last time you slept in?

Oh my goodness, there was one morning, I think the weekend before Blend, where I slept until 9 or 9:30, and my roommate was SHOCKED when I emerged because she thought I had already been up, had coffee, and headed out to the farmers’ market. It was SO great, especially because I have not had an evening where I’ve slept through the night in I don’t know HOW long. [Times of change will do that to me.]

Good for you! I found myself fighting a nap yesterday afternoon but I probably should have given in, it may have saved the afternoon/early evening crabbiness. 😉

I look forward to mornings as it’s one of my only times I get to myself. I worked a job where i had to get up at 5:00 to be ready and out the door for my hour long commute for years so I think it’s ingrained in me to wake up early after that. Although I did sleep in until 6:30 the other day which is late for me!

I do enjoy my quiet mornings too. So peaceful. It’s my favorite time to go out for a run.

A lot of the time on weekends I schedule so much in I set my alarm to get up early so I can get the gym done. Tomorrow I have no plans till 3pm so won’t need to set an alarm but I still think I will probably wake up early as my body is so used to it.

I usually set my alarm too…even when I plan to “sleep in” just because I hate to feel like I’m losing my whole day.
