This Is Real Life

I sat down yesterday morning at Ethereal Confections, ordered my coconut milk latte, sprinkled some cinnamon on top and within a few minutes Sam walked in and we got to work. We didn’t leave for nearly 7 hours. It’s a good thing they like us there and the owner was sitting by us doing his work most of the morning too, but quite honestly, it was amazing.

As I drove home I couldn’t help but think how much I’m going to miss days like that – sitting (and working) at one of my favorite local coffee shops, taking breaks to eat chocolate or laugh with the owner and a good friend, and enjoy life.

There’s going to be so many amazing moments in my future this next year. So many wonderful people we’re going to meet and lives we’re going to change. And I’m so grateful that life has presented me with this opportunity. Sometimes I can’t believe how far I’ve come, the trials and tribulations that I have endured and the pure happiness that lives in my soul.

Yesterday our local newspaper posted an article about 50 States In A Year on their website (and front page of the paper today!) and with each moment like this, with each new event that we get confirmed (I added THREE yesterday!), with each person that I get to talk to about this all, the more I am reminded that this is real and this is happening. It’s not that we ever doubted it, it’s just one of the moments when it’s like you’ve stepped outside your body to watch your dreams coming to life before your eyes. I’m not sure I can explain it, so just trust me on that.

I will admit there was one point yesterday when Sam and I were on the phone when I said “Sam…is this real life?” and she started laughing. Yes, Katie, yes it is… 😉
