With one of my goals for 2018 to be to read 52 books, I have been working on my list of books that I want to read to make sure I’m never at a loss of what to read next. Though let’s get real, I actually have a note in my phone and every time I hear of a book that sounds intriguing, I add it to the list so I’m never really at a loss. ha!
Last year I read just under 40 books so I thought it would be fun to share a handful of my favorites so if you’re trying to reach your own reading goal for the year then maybe you’ll want to add a few of my favorites to your own list.
While this is not a sponsored post, I do want to share my love for Audible with all of you! If you’re not sure how to make enough time to read as much as you’d like, I definitely suggest Audible because then you can listen on your commute into work, while running errands, or while working out at the gym. (I do all of these things). You can also see if your local library works with any companies to offer audiobooks that you can check out. Mine uses Overdrive so I always see if the book is available there before using my Audible credits to purchase it.
Anyway, with all that said, here are my top reads from 2017 (in no particular order):
10% Happier by Dan Harris
I love meditation and I found Dan’s story very interesting. I’m excited to read his new book coming out this year!
You Are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero
A follow-up to her You Are a Badass (also a great read!), I really enjoyed this book. I’m working towards financial freedom this year so I may have to go back and re-read this and make sure I’m taking the proper action.
White Hot Truth by Danielle LaPorte
I really enjoyed White Hot Truth and I love Danielle’s open and kind of “hippy” approach to life. At the same time, I love how she put it out there that she’s had moments of going so far into this “self development” world and had to reel herself back in. I think we need to find the balance.
Braving the Wilderness by Brene Brown
I have said it before and I’ll say it again, this is a book that EVERYONE needs to read, especially given our current political world. Regardless of what side you fall on, this is an eye-opener.
Love Warrior by Glennon Doyle Melton
We all want to have everything figured out and often the moment we think we do, we are reminded that we don’t. Relationships are challenging and for those of us seeking truer, deeper and more authentic relationships in our lives will find something to connect with author on as she speaks her story.
The Four Tendencies by Gretchen Rubin
I find the four tendencies to be such a fascinating topic and I’m working on actions to help me thrive more within my own tendency (obliger). I also find myself now trying to figure out what everyone else is in my life.
Talking As Fast As I Can by Lauren Graham
This was such a fun read. I’m a huge fan of Lauren Graham (in both Gilmore Girls and Parenthood..and just about anything) and I loved getting some behind the scenes info. I really think she’s such a gem in this world.
Rising Strong by Brene Brown
Brent Brown makes my list more than once because I LOVE her and her work on vulnerability. I highly suggest checking out pretty much any book she has ever written.
The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World by Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu
This was a very interesting listen and one that I really enjoyed. It was interesting to hear the way these two were similar and different, yet still sharing a common love and appreciation.
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Mason
I can’t say I totally loved this book as I was listening to it actually, but I did notice a bit of a shift after which made me realize it had a larger impact than I realized at the time. Moral of the story? I need to read it again. haha
*These books didn’t necessarily come out in 2017, but it’s when I read and enjoyed them. :)
What are some of your favorite books you read last year?
